Land Conservation To Protect the Watershed

Stormwater and agricultural runoff were identified as critical sources of water pollution in the Banklick Watershed.  Acquiring land to create what is called "riparian buffers" along the waterways is a key step in cutting down the pollution (see the graphic below).  Research has shown that well-maintained filter strips and vegetated buffers can reduce the amounts of pathogens and sediment in streams by over 50%.

Our target is to attain land adjacent to the streams and restore this land to a full riparian zone with the restoration of native plant species.  If you are interested in donating land for waterway conservation purposes, please contact us.
